Seeking Energy Independence
Pioneering the Future of Wind Energy
At Windworks, our journey began with a bold vision: to revolutionize the way the world harnesses wind energy. Founded by a team of passionate engineers and environmentalists, we set out to develop a technology that could overcome the limitations of traditional wind turbines and unlock the true potential of wind power.

From Vision to Reality
June 2018: R&D Kickoff
Our journey began with a deep dive into the aerodynamics of vertical-axis wind turbines, experimenting with a small prototype at the Unsteady Flow Diagnostics Laboratory at EPFL. The wind tunnel was our playground, and we were just getting started.
June 2021: A Meeting of Minds
In a serendipitous encounter at the same EPFL lab, our co-founders met and discovered a unique synergy and complementarity in their skill sets.
August 2021: Major Breakthrough
Jackpot! Our experiments showed that blade control could dramatically enhance wind turbine performance. Our lab prototype achieved a threefold efficiency increase and a 70% reduction in turbulence-related structural damage compared to an unactuated turbine.
March 2023: Industrial Case Study
An established vertical-axis wind turbine company commissioned us to demonstrate the potential of real-time blade pitch for floating offshore wind turbines. Our control framework reduced the streamwise force acting on the turbine tower by 68% in high wind conditions compared to an unactuated turbine.
October 2023: Windworks is Born
With significant industry traction, we secured a CHF 130,000 BRIDGE grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation to commercialize our academic findings. And just like that, Windworks was born!
January 2024: Partnership with Agile Wind Power AG
We signed a Material Transfer Agreement with Agile Wind Power AG, a Swiss company manufacturing large-scale vertical-axis wind turbines. They lent us a 2-meter prototype to implement our real-time blade control.
June 2024: Innogrant from EPFL
Windworks secured a CHF 100,000 Innogrant from EPFL to accelerate our technical development and protect our IP.
